Protein Antibacterials: Lysins

Lysins are bacteriophage‑derived proteins with potent antibacterial properties that normally function at the end of the phage life cycle to lyse the bacterial cell wall. These enzymatic proteins can show muralytic, proteolytic or other hydrolase activities, allowing them to rapidly destroy the peptidoglycan of target bacteria.

Lysin Innovations

Using its proprietary PATP platform, GangaGen designs novel lysins to target both Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative pathogens. One example is P128 (StaphTAME), an ectolysin active against Staphylococcus species that has progressed into clinical evaluation.
